Madhuri Dixit (Marathi: माधुरी दीक्षित) (born Madhuri Shankar Dixit on 15 May 1967) is an Indian Bollywood actress. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, she established herself as one of Hindi cinema's leading actresses and accomplished dancers. She appeared in numerous commercial successes and was recognised for several performances as well as dance numbers in various films. Dixit is often cited by the media as one of the most prominent female actresses in Bollywood.In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award by the Government of India.

Early life

Madhuri Dixit is a native of Mumbai, India. She was born Madhuri Shankar Dixit to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit, of a Marathi Brahmin family. Dixit attended Divine Child High School and Mumbai University and wanted to be a microbiologist. She was trained as a Kathak dancer.
Film career

Madhuri Dixit made her acting debut in Abodh in 1984. After a few minor and supporting roles in movies like Dayavan and Vardi, she landed the lead female role in Tezaab (1988), for which she received her first Filmfare nomination. She then starred in a number of films that included Ram Lakhan (1989), Parinda (1989), Tridev (1989), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990) and Prahaar (1991).

In 1990, Dixit starred in Indra Kumar's romantic-drama Dil. She played the role of Madhu Mehra, a rich and arrogant girl who falls in love and later leaves her house to marry. The film became one of the biggest box-office hits of the year in India, and Dixit's performance earned her the first Filmfare Best Actress Award of her career.

Post the success of Dil she starred in movies like Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...! (1994), and Raja (1995). Dixit's performance in Beta, that of a woman married to an illiterate, well-meaning man who exposes her scheming mother-in-law, won her a second Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...! (1994) became one of the biggest grossers in the history of Hindi cinema till that time. It won Dixit her third Filmfare Best Actress Award. In that same year, Dixit was also nominated in the same category for her performance in Anjaam.

Dixit appeared as Pooja in Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) for which she won a fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award.[11] In that same year, Dixit starred in Prakash Jha's Mrityudand. Dixit's performance in the film landed her the Best Actress award at the annual Star Screen Awards.

In 2002, she starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas. Her performance earned her a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. The film was featured at the Cannes Film Festival. The following year a film named after her, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon!, was released in which a woman (played by Antara Mali) aspires to become the new Madhuri Dixit by trying her luck in the Bollywood industry.

Dixit is not only known for her acting skills, but for her dancing skills as well. She is notable for her dance sequences accompanying Bollywood songs such as "Ek Do Teen" (from Tezaab), "Humko Aaj Kal Hai" (from Sailaab), "Bada Dukh Deenha" (from Ram Lakhan), "Dhak Dhak" (from Beta), "Chane Ke Khet Mein" (from Anjaam), "Didi Tera Devar Deewana" (from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...!), "Choli Ke Peechhe" (from Khalnayak), "Akhiyan Milaun" (from Raja), "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya" (from Yaraana), "Kay Sera Sera" (from Pukar), and "Maar Daala" (from Devdas).

On 25 February 2006 she performed on stage for the first time in six years at the Filmfare Awards to music from her last movie Devdas. Her performance was choreographed by Saroj Khan.

On 7 December 2006, Dixit returned to Mumbai with her husband and sons to start filming for Aaja Nachle (2007).[20] The film released in November 2007 and, despite the critics panning it, Dixit's performance was highly appreciated,with the New York Times commenting about her that "she's still got it".

Madhuri Dixit has been the muse for the famous Indian painter M.F. Husain. He made a film in 2000 named Gaja Gamini, in which Madhuri acted. The film was intended as a tribute to Dixit herself. In 2010/2011, she appeared as a judge of the dance reality show Jahlak Dikhlaja 4

On Women's International Day in 2007, Dixit topped Rediff's list of the Best Bollywood Actresses Ever.[3] In May 2008, she was given a tribute by Indian Film Festival at Los Angeles. In March 2010, The Economic Times named Madhuri Dixit in the list of the "33 women who made India proud".
Personal life

In 1999, Madhuri Dixit married Shriram Madhav Nene, a UCLA-trained cardiovascular surgeon who practices in Denver.Nene is also from a Marathi Brahmin family. She has two sons, Arin (born in March 2003 in Colorado) and Raayan (born in March 2005 in Colorado).

She has two elder sisters, Rupa and Bharati, and an elder brother, Ajit. Madhuri and her family are based in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Bipasha Basu (Bengali: বিপাশা বসু) is an Indian actress who mainly appears in Bollywood films. A former model, she was the winner of the Ford's Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest in 1996.

Early life
Basu was born on January 7, 1979.in New Delhi to a Bengali Hindu family. She is the second of three daughters to her parents, the elder being Bidisha, and the younger—Vijayeta. Although she was born in New Delhi, her family later moved to Kolkata.[citation needed].
In an interview, she has stated that she had initially planned to study medicine, but entered modelling and acting by accident. Basu studied science till the 12th standard at Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir and then studied commerce at The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society College, an undergraduate college affiliated with the University of Calcutta. In Kolkata, she did modeling and ramp shows part-time.However, in 1996, she met model Mehr Jessia in Kolkata; the latter suggested that Basu take part in the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest. Basu participated, and won the contest.

Career
After winning the Ford Godrej Cinthol contest, Basu also was flown to New York by the Ford Company, where she had a successful modelling career at the age of 17.
Basu made her film debut in Abbas Mustan's Ajnabee, with Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor. She played a married woman who goes all out to woo her husband’s married friend, and eventually won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her performance.
In 2002, Basu starred in Telugu movie Takkari Donga and Vikram Bhatt's thriller Raaz. Raaz was a big commercial success and surfaced as the biggest hit of that year. For her performance in the film, she received her first Best Actress nomination at the Filmfare. One review in The Tribune noted, "...it is Bipasha Basu who steals the show with her fine performance." She appeared as Sonia Khanna in the 2003 hit movie Jism alongside John Abraham. The movie earned her a Filmfare Best Villain Award nomination.
Besides acting, Basu did the video "Tu" for Sonu Nigam's album, Kismat. She also made a guest appearance in Jay Sean's music video Stolen.

In 2006, she performed an item number during the song Beedi in the film Omkara for which Rediff noted Basu's picturisation.Basu in 2008

In 2008 Basu starred in Race, her second collaboration with duo Abbas Mustan, with whom she debuted in Bollywood. Co-starring Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, the film performed well at the box office, and Basu's performance was appreciated by critics. Taran Adarsh of indiaFM described her performance as "her best work so far. She’s superb". She also received good reviews for her role in Bachna Ae Haseeno opposite Ranbir Kapoor. She completed the year by appearing in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in the song Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte.

In 2005 Bipasha and John Abraham did a fitness video with Eros called Bollywood Bodies.In 2010 she has launched her own line of videos with Shemaroo under the banner BB - Love Yourself. The first release is called 'Fit and Fabulous You.

Personal life

Basu has been in a relationship with actor John Abraham. The couple have been together since late 2002 and have been referred to as a supercouple in the Indian media.She previously dated fellow Bollywood actor Dino Morea.

In 2006, Basu claimed to have been harassed by certain organizers of the India Day Parade in Edison, New Jersey. Basu was initially scheduled to lead the parade on 13 August 2006. Basu eventually appeared on stage late, according to her, because of the harassment. She said, "I wanted to attend the parade, but I could not." She explained that she was harassed physically and mentally in the car by two people who were taking her to the parade.

In 2005 and 2007, UK magazine Eastern Eye named Basu the "Sexiest Woman in Asia".

Early life and family

Born on 22 January 1972 in a moderate Marathi-speaking family, Namrata Shirodkar is an Aquarian. She used to live in Khar, an elite suburb in Mumbai. Her sister is the actress Shilpa Shirodkar. She is the granddaughter of famous Marathi actress Meenakshi Shirodkar, who starred in Brahmachari (1930s), and was the first actress to wear a swimsuit and gambol in a pool.

Modelling career
Namrata worked as a model, and was crowned Miss India in 1993. She represented India in the Miss Universe pageant and came in sixth place. She was featured on VH1's The Greatest: 40 Dumbest Celebrity Quotes Ever for her answer at the 1993 Miss Universe contest to a question asked by Michael Dorn: "I would not want to live forever because I don't believe that one can live forever. And so, I don't think I would want to live forever! The same year, she also represented India in the Miss Asia Pacific contest and was chosen first runner-up.

Acting career
She made her debut with a small role in super hit film Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), along with Salman Khan and Twinkle Khanna. She then went on to star in the hit Vaastav.Her performance was appreciated and she became a known name in Bollywood.

She has played mainly supporting roles in films. Films like Pukar, Hera Pheri and Astitva went on to do well.She was nominated for the IIFA Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Pukar. Since then her films have not done well at the box office.

In 1999, she starred opposite Megastar Mammootty in the Malayalam film Ezhupunna Tharakan.

In 2004 she went back into the spotlight when she played the role of Jaya Bakshi in Bride and Prejudice. She played Aishwarya Rai's elder sister in the film. The film was a hit overseas particularly in the UK but failed to do well in India.She has since left the industry after her marriage.

Personal life
She began dating Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu in 2000 after the filming of Vamsee. They married on 10 February 2005. Shirodkar now lives in Hyderabad with her husband.Their first child, a boy named Gautam Krishna Gattamaneni was born on 31 August 2006.

1989 to 1993 The made-for-television movie Daddy (1989), directed by Mahesh Bhatt was Pooja Bhatt’s first movie when she was just seventeen years old. She played Anupam Kher’s daughter trying to bond with him and help him give up alcohol.

Mahesh Bhatt’s Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) was a remake of Hollywood’s It Happened One Night. Bhatt played a spoilt brat who runs away from home to marry her boyfriend and meets a journalist, played by Aamir Khan, en route.

Sadak (1992) with Sanjay Dutt was a remake of another Hollywood hit Taxi Driver and she played a prostitute. The movie became a big hit. Junoon (1992) was a horror movie which cast her opposite Rahul Roy. She acted in movies like Saatwan Aasman, Jaanam and Prem Deewani in 1992 which were not as successful as her earlier movies.

In another made-for-television movie directed by her father, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi (1993), saw her as a woman suffering from some mental problems. She worked with Naseeruddin Shah in Sir (1993) as his student. The movie received positive reviews.

1994 to 2001 Pooja Bhatt appeared in many movies that were rated average like Kranti Kshetra (1994), Guneghar (1995), Hum Dono (1995) and Angrakshak (1995). Tamanna (1997) was a moderate success as it told the story of a eunuch who brings her up when he finds her abandoned as a baby.

J.P.Dutta’s Border (1997) which was a commercial success had her playing an army man’s wife. Her next big movie was Zakhm (1998). The movie was weaved around the demolition of the Babri Masjid and she played Ajay Devgan’s mother. She was last seen in Rahul Bose’s Everybody Says I Am Fine (2001) as Tanya, a divorcee.

As a director
Paap (2003) with John Abraham and Udita Goswami was a moderate success. Her next venture Holiday (2006) was a flop. Dhokha (2007) with new comer Muzammil Ibrahim was about a man who finds out that his wife was a suicide bomber and tries to put together the pieces. Her next movie to be released in 2009 is Kajraare with Himesh Reshammiya and Divya Khosla in the lead.

Pooja Bhatt has also produced movies like Dushman (1998), Sur: The Melody of Life (2002) and Jism (2003). She set up her own production house called Pooja Bhatt Productions in 1996.
